Professional reviewing remote writing opportunities from a home office

A remote-writing newsletter can be a useful lead source, but a newsletter mention does not prove that a position is still open, fairly paid or available in every country. We checked the strongest listings from a September 17 newsletter against direct employer career pages, official applicant-tracking systems and publication pitching guides.

The result is a ranked snapshot of 13 opportunities that could still be confirmed on September 20, 2026. For newly added and continuously updated leads, use the daily Writer Opportunities page. Readers interested in a broader mix of writing, technology, marketing and AI roles can also review our Remote Work guide.

Quick answer: Ethos offers the strongest compensation among the confirmed jobs, Vetcove combines high pay with a detailed content remit, and The Sunday Long Read offers the strongest disclosed terms for a single freelance assignment. The best choice still depends on location, experience and whether the writer wants employment or individual commissions.

How These Writing Opportunities Were Ranked

Higher positions went to listings with an active official page, a direct application route, specific responsibilities, disclosed compensation, clear eligibility details and reasonable treatment of writers. Undisclosed pay, country ambiguity, contractor classification, low flat fees or a mismatch between the newsletter label and the current official opening moved an opportunity lower.

A low position does not mean an organization is fraudulent. It means the public offer is narrower, less transparent or less valuable than the choices above it. Full-time jobs, contractor roles and freelance pitches are also different arrangements. Compare the terms that apply to the kind of work you actually want.

Ethos Senior Scriptwriter

Remote, United States | $127,000-$223,000 base salary | 8+ years of relevant experience

Ethos is the strongest overall choice for an experienced performance writer. The company's official Greenhouse page lists a full-time, remote U.S. Senior Scriptwriter role with a base salary of $127,000 to $223,000, before any applicable bonus, equity or benefits. The work centers on direct-response scripts for television, radio, podcasts, user-generated content, paid social and influencer campaigns.

Applicants need at least eight years of relevant experience and a portfolio that shows broadcast, direct-response and social scripting. The listing also provides a fraud warning: legitimate recruiting messages will come only from Ethos or GetEthos email domains. The salary and detailed scope put this first, but it is a senior specialist role rather than a broad writing opening.

Vetcove Senior Customer and Content Marketing Manager

Remote, United States | $100,000-$140,000 base plus bonus, equity and benefits | 5+ years

Vetcove ranks second because the official application page combines strong compensation, national remote eligibility and a well-defined editorial remit. The role owns clinic communications, customer case studies, educational content for pet owners and community engagement programs. Vetcove asks for at least five years in customer, content or community marketing, ideally in business software or healthcare.

The listing discloses a U.S. base-pay range of $100,000 to $140,000, plus bonus, equity and benefits. Applicants should be comfortable coordinating video production and working with subject-matter experts. The posted deadline is November 1, 2026, and the company says it cannot sponsor work visas.

The Sunday Long Read Original Stories

Open year-round | $2,000 minimum for reported stories over 2,000 words

The Sunday Long Read is the best freelance opportunity in this group. Its current pitch guide says the outlet publishes five to ten original long-form stories a year and sets a $2,000 floor for reported pieces longer than 2,000 words, with possible reporting-expense coverage. Writers retain future rights after initial publication and promotion, and the publication promises a response within 30 days.

The opening is competitive because the outlet publishes relatively few originals, but the public rate, clear rights language and separate freelance-policy commitments make it a serious market. Pitch original, deeply reported, character-driven nonfiction rather than opinion, an unreported personal essay or a completed piece generated with an LLM.

Wpromote Manager Content Marketing

Remote in most U.S. states | $70,000-$80,000 plus benefits | 2-3 years

Wpromote offers one of the clearest mid-career paths in the newsletter. Its official careers page confirms a full-time Content Marketing Manager position that can be performed remotely in most U.S. states. The company asks for two to three years of content marketing, SEO content or editorial strategy experience, plus client communication and project-management skills.

The role combines content strategy, search, analytics, creative testing and cross-channel collaboration. It is stronger for a performance-minded marketer than for someone seeking a writing-only position. The anticipated salary is $70,000 to $80,000 with listed benefits, and Wpromote does not offer immigration sponsorship for this job.

Colibri Group Content Marketing Manager

Remote | Compensation not publicly disclosed | 4+ years | Deadline September 25, 2026

Colibri Group's Content Marketing Manager role is a strong match for writers who understand education, professional learning or educational technology. The official listing describes a full-time remote position supporting Moreland University. The manager will own a professional-learning launch calendar, guide courses and other offerings from concept to market, write landing pages and campaigns, and use performance data to improve the portfolio.

Candidates need at least four years of relevant experience and a bachelor's degree. The listing provides a detailed hiring process and a September 25, 2026 application deadline, but it does not publish compensation. That omission keeps the role below Wpromote despite the substantial ownership and clear responsibilities.

Vittles Restaurant Coverage and Opinion

Up to £800 for reported newsletters | Current needs are restaurant coverage and timely opinion

Vittles is a documented paid market, but its current needs are narrower than the newsletter label suggests. The publication says it is no longer commissioning general features and is open instead to restaurant coverage and timely opinion about restaurants, food culture and the British hospitality industry.

Current rates are £800 for a reported 2,000-to-2,500-word newsletter, £600 for a 1,500-to-2,000-word opinion piece or personal essay, £500 plus expenses for a review, £100 for a Six of Ones item, and about 40 pence per word for smaller work. This is an excellent choice for writers with a precise restaurant or hospitality angle, not a generic food essay.

Poynter Freelance Media Stories

$0.50 per word for reported articles | $0.25 per word for nonreported analysis or opinion

Poynter's official guide confirms an active route for reported stories, analysis and essays about journalism and the forces shaping news. Its interests include independent and major newsrooms, creators, fact-checking, media literacy, press freedom and the changing practice of journalism.

Poynter says its freelance budget is limited and is mainly reserved for stories commissioned or developed with a writer in advance, so pitch before drafting a complete article. A strong proposal should include the news hook, audience value, reporting plan, likely sources, estimated length and the writer's relevant experience or connection.

Homera Health Conversion Content Strategist

Remote in Canada | Compensation not disclosed | 5+ years

Homera Health's official application page confirms a remote Canada opening for a Conversion Content Strategist. The person will develop and test content across email, text messaging, landing pages, paid advertising and other customer-facing channels, then use campaign data to improve acquisition, engagement, conversion and retention.

The company seeks at least five years in copywriting, content marketing, growth marketing, conversion optimization or a related field. The position is described as a full-time independent-contractor arrangement with flexible hours, not ordinary salaried employment. Ask about rate, currency, workload, termination terms, intellectual-property terms and tax treatment before accepting.

Uvation Long-Form Content Writer

Country-specific remote openings | Compensation not disclosed | Technical portfolio preferred

Uvation has an active official listing for a Long-Form Content Writer focused on artificial intelligence and enterprise technology. The work includes articles, white papers, industry reports, case studies, website content and executive thought leadership. The company emphasizes original research, narrative judgment, factual accuracy and the ability to translate infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity and data-center topics for professional audiences.

Uvation's careers board shows country-specific versions of the role rather than a worldwide opening, with employment type varying by location. The individual page does not disclose pay. Confirm that the application matches your country and determine the compensation and employment classification before investing substantial time in the process.

BFI Sight and Sound Pitches

£120 per 1,000 words | £500 standard rate for a video essay

The British Film Institute maintains an official pitching guide for Sight and Sound, covering features, reviews, news reports, festival coverage, criticism, web pieces and selected video essays. Editors welcome writers at different experience levels but expect a deep understanding of cinema and a clear reason the proposed story matters to their readers.

The guide asks new contributors to include previous work and encourages a precise subject line, angle, headline idea and explanation of why the piece belongs in Sight and Sound. The publication's reputation is strong, but the per-word rate places it below better-paid freelance markets in this ranking.

The Mary Sue Multimedia Journalist and Vertical Video Producer

Listed for Manila, Philippines | Compensation not quantified | Short-form video experience

GAMURS Group's official careers board lists a remote contract opening for a Multimedia Journalist and Vertical Video Producer under The Mary Sue. The work focuses on reporting and scripting short-form vertical video for TikTok and other social platforms, with responsibility for research, recording, editing, captions, search optimization and performance analysis.

The role suits a journalist who can take a story from pitch through finished video and is comfortable appearing on camera or recording voice-over. The posting does not provide a numeric compensation figure, and the geographic label should be treated as a restriction unless the employer confirms otherwise.

MultiplyMii Amazon Listing Content Specialist

Remote in the Philippines | PHP 30,000-PHP 35,000 monthly | 20 hours per week

MultiplyMii's official page confirms a 20-hour-per-week Amazon Listing Content Specialist role for candidates in the Philippines. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time, with possible expansion to full time.

Despite the title, this is primarily implementation and quality assurance. The specialist uploads approved titles, bullets, descriptions, search terms and enhanced content, manages flat files, and troubleshoots Seller Central problems. It is legitimate and clear about schedule and pay, but it requires hands-on Amazon publishing experience and offers less creative writing than many readers may expect.

Sixty Inches From Center Art and Culture Pitches

$150 per publication | Midwestern art and culture | Themed call closes September 29, 2026

Sixty Inches From Center is a current, deadline-sensitive opportunity for writers covering Midwestern art and culture. Its official pitch page lists a Recipes call from September 9 through September 29, 2026, and says general pitches remain open through October 14, 2026.

The outlet welcomes essays, interviews, comics, photo essays and related forms, with priority for perspectives and practices often neglected by mainstream arts coverage. It pays writers and image makers a flat $150 per publication. The active dates, regional mission and public rate make the call credible, but the flat fee is the lowest disclosed payment among the recommended choices.

Why Some Newsletter Listings Were Not Ranked

The remaining newsletter entries were not automatically labeled false or fraudulent. They were excluded because we could not confirm enough current information on an official page, because the available page functioned as a general submission form without clear pay, or because the exact advertised role was no longer visible.

Examples include LOTL Studio, Fisher and Farmer, Lazo, Arts Midwest, Briarpatch, Design Room, Film Stories, Acacia, The New Transsexual, Gutter, Smashed, Pure, Vantify and Horizontal Digital. Writers may still investigate them, but should not rely on the newsletter description alone.

How to Use This List Safely

Apply or pitch through the linked official page whenever possible. Confirm the location rule before preparing materials because remote often means remote within one country or a limited group of states. For jobs with undisclosed compensation, ask for the salary or contract range before completing lengthy tests. For freelance pitches, read the publication's current coverage and submit an idea rather than a finished article unless the guidelines say otherwise.

No legitimate employer should require an applicant to pay a recruiting fee or provide banking credentials during an initial application. A request for a portfolio, resume or writing samples is normal. A request for money, passwords, complete financial credentials or an unexplained purchase is not.

These links were checked on September 20, 2026. Recheck the official page immediately before applying because vacancies and calls can close after publication. For more leads, return to the daily Writer Opportunities page or compare this snapshot with the September 15 weekly shortlist.
